Právo nemocného na poučení a informace o jeho zdravotním stavu, jakož i právo na odmítnutí léčebných výkonů či ústavní péče lze považovat za jedno z nejdůležitějších práv nemocného. Tomuto právu odpovídá současně povinnost lékaře nemocného vhodným způsobem poučit a vyžádat si jeho souhlas s provedením léčebného výkonu. Poučení, které je lékařem poskytnuto, má rozhodující vliv na udělení souhlasu nemocného-
